Kitchener Clothing Drive for the Philippine’s Less Fortunate
A congregation in Kitchener had spent a portion of the summer collecting gently used clothing from loving brothers and sisters, responding to the recent calamities affecting the Philippines. The clothing drive was quite a success, and broke all previous records! The clothes were prepared and folded at Kitchener east by a number of wonderful brothers and sisters. It was quite fun organizing everything to fit the 7 boxes that were ready to be shipped by boat to the other side of the world.
A whole ten weeks later the clothes finally arrived. This was right before the Chief Apostle’s visit, so we decided to keep the boxes in storage until the busy days pass. A youth event was scheduled to get everyone involved. We were to open, separate, and prepare bags of assorted clothes for distribution to families in affected areas.
The youth event was a great time. After choir practice on Sunday, the youth gathered at the warehouse where the clothes were kept and then everyone participated in getting the family packages together. We worked together as one big team and were able to pack 90 bags ready to be donated and distributed by NACSEA Relief. Perhaps we will have another event with regard to distributing these officially sometime in the future. We were also fortunate enough to have Dc Daniel Hebeisen in our midst. Together we read through the first Chapter of the Catechism which was only three pages to start off our Catechism reading plan. We also had some delicious pancit to go with it. Look at all the wonderful pictures, but first, the recap video!
